This Chinese epic at Cinematheque promises spooky thrills and a few laughs in this 4k restoration of the 1978 Hong Kong film. Legend of the Mountain is not the kind of film you just wander across in Cleveland. If you are a fan of Hong Kong cinema or just great cinema in general, be sure to catch it. Cinematheque says:
In this visually stunning epic from the director of Dragon Inn and A Touch of Zen, a traveling scholar who has come to a remote mountain village to copy a Buddhist sutra soon finds himself inhabiting a strange, supernatural world populated by ghosts and demons. The movie’s mystical mood is leavened by comedy and a climactic drum battle. With Sylvia Chang. Cleveland revival premiere. Subtitles. DCP. 184 min.
Special admission $11; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $8. No passes, twofers, or radio winners.
