Read, Listen and Like to Win!

Howdy Cleveland!

Join our first ever reader and listener drive to promote Celestial Attic, your source for Cleveland’s geekiest events. To promote the site and give back to the community, we are throwing two super-geeky events, the Cleveland Worldcon Party hosted at Bottlehouse Brewing Company in August, and the Picnic at the End of the Universe in September. Additionally, local businesses have donated prizes to help us share the love for the greater, geeky, Cleveland area.

Each week, we will promote two trivia questions to be asked on the blog, on facebook, or in the podcast on Tuesday and Friday. Email your answer to to enter the drawing to be drawn each Wednesday and Saturday, with in-person drawings at the Worldcon Party and Picnic at the End of the Universe.

Immediate family members of Celestial Attic’s owners and employees are ineligible to win. You must be 18 and older to win. No purchase is required to win.

Be sure to check out our sponsors, Cleveland Cinemas, Imaginary Worlds Comics and Collectables, Library of America, Mac’s Backs Books of Coventry, The Malted Meeple, The Mummy and the Monkey’s Thrift Crypt, and Carol and John’s Comic Shop. Read, listen and like for your chance to win during the months of August and September.

How can you support us? Share our posts, like us on Facebook, subscribe to the podcast, add us to your flash brief, and recommend us to your friends and suggest items for our calendar. Additionally, take part in discussions on facebook and volunteer to help out with events.

Let’s work together to keep Cleveland Geeky.

There were several Thirteenth Doctor reveals at San Diego Comic Con, including this panel introduction.

The highlight reel was an even bigger draw of course, giving us a glimpse of the series’ direction and aesthetic with Jodie Whittaker in the role.

Here is the Doctor Who panel in two parts:

Of course, there are toys to discover as well. Kyle Anderson at Nerdist has the scoop on all the new Thirteenth Doctor merchandise announced in San Diego.

Celestial Picks – Interactive Fiction

What is the geekiest thing going in Cleveland this weekend? It would have to be the Interactive Fiction workshop panel at Maelstrom Collaborative Arts Saturday, May 26 from 11 am until 1 pm. Maelstrom is located at 5403 Detroit Road in Cleveland, Ohio, 44102, but don’t rush straight there, they request an RSVP via this link.

They say:

Dive into the twisting maze of interactive fiction design with this free workshop panel. We will discuss popular tools for writing Interactive Fiction, strategies for planning for branch narratives & multiple endings, and tips to avoid common pitfalls (aka how to not make your players/readers hate you)! Whether you are a coder, a writer, or a player who doesn’t want to be eaten by a grue, you’ll learn more about this fun and innovative genre that is more relevant than ever.

Panelists: Marie Vibbert, Mike Substelny, Steven Swiniarski
Moderator: Jeremy Paul

It’s FREE but, please RSVP for a free ticket at

Hope to see you there!

All workshops at Maelstrom Collaborative Arts are free or offered on a sliding scale, and donations are always accepted and appreciated to help keep our Monthly Workshop Series strong. Upcoming topics include Intro to Illustration (June), Contact Improv (July) and Immersive Performance (September).

Looking for something else Saturday, possibly after the workshop? How about the sidewalk sale in Cleveland’s Larchmere neighborhood all day Saturday?

Sidewalk Sale.png

The normally vibrant neighborhood is already brimming with delightful shops, wonderful antiques, unique restaurants, and one of the city’s best bookshops, Loganberry Books. Add to that dozens of local vendors, and you have quite the shopping experience. Sandy Clark once pulled a load of Britain’s Spacemen from a quarter box there. You too should own a hoard of wee little astronauts for a $2.75.

While you are there, eat at:

Barroco Arepa Bar & Concert Cafe
Eclectic & Vibrant atmosphere with Award Winning Menu
12718 Larchmere Blvd
Hours: Open daily 11:00AM
Live Music every Monday, Friday & Saturday 7PM

Where is Larchemere, they say:

The Larchmere district starts at East 120th Street and extends east to North Moreland – one block north of the Shaker Square shopping district.
